Fantasy Football Draft Results: The 8th Pick In A 12 team PPR

The first of several important fantasy football drafts was held on Monday night. I held the 8th pick and chose Marion Barber III.   Initially, I had thought Frank Gore may be available as a result of QB Tom Brady and WR Randy Moss being selected ahead of me.  It was moot as Moss fell to 11 and Frank Gore went 7th.

With my second pick, I opted for the 100 reception/10 TD receiver Larr Fitzgerald over a second RB like Maurice Jones-Drew of Jacksonville, Michael Turner in Atlanta or Brandon Jacobs with the New York Giants.  The decision meant I would take the best available RB when the draft came back 15 picks later.

I took Tampa Bay Buccanneer Earnest Graham, and I am glad I did.  When the draft came back to me 9 picks later, the only starting RBs left were Kevin Smith of Detroit and the Miami Dolphins tandem of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams.  None of those options were better than Jets' WR Jerricho Cotchery or Lions' WR Calvin Johnson.

Cotchery was the selection because I consider him a safer bet for 80+ receptions, and I expect QB Brett Favre to make Cotchery the WR fantasy players hoped he would be after topping Torry Holt's receviing records at North Carolina State.

After selecting TE Antonio Gates with my 5th pick, I began to build my bench, and you can see how well I did.  My roster is presented as it currently stands for Week One as opposed to listing the players by round selected.  Hopefully, this provides a slightly more informative view.
