Kershaw sent down/Furcal done for the year??
I would have posted sooner, but was at the Thunder game tonight....Austin Jackson gave my daughter a ball as he was walking off the field in the 2nd inning.
This from Tony Jackson's blog-and Kershaw is NOT happy:
I was as surprised as you undoubtedly are, but no one was more surprised that Kershaw himself. Joe Torre stressed, both to Clayton and to the media, that the move was more about needing a roster spot for Hiroki Kuroda, who is coming off the DL and starting tonight, than it was about the way Clayton has pitched. But as Clayton himself said, ``Any way you spin it, I'm getting sent down. They can say they didn't have enough room, but they (brought) me up when they didn't have enough room, because all those (pitchers) were healthy then.'' Haven't gotten a definitive explanation yet of why it's Jacksonville and not Las Vegas, but I'm sure it's because they don't want to subject the kid to the psychological perils of pitching in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. ... Still nothing on Furcal, but Torre admitted he now has to take on the mindset that Furcal isn't coming back until he does. At this point, I'm not convinced he is coming back at all, but Torre was a bit more cautious. ``We have half a season (left),'' he said. ``I would like to think that is going to happen.''
He speaks like a veteran, and handles himself like a vet. I must say, I wonder if Torre let him pitch to Wiggy last night, and he got out of the inning, resulting in his first win of the season, if Torre would be making this move?? I think Torre made some prety bad decisions in last night's game, but for some reason he is keeping Falkenbourg and Troncoso in the bigs??
Honestly though, Kershaw probably needs more seasoning in AA. I have watched him pitch on several occasions, and he relies on his fastball too much, and needs to work on his control. It;s just a matter of time, before he gets that taken care of. I just hope Torre didn't eff him up psychologically.

Furcal to undergo surgery, miss eight weeks

Shortstop and leadoff hitter Rafael Furcal will undergo back surgery tomorrow and miss about another eight weeks. The microdiscectomy operation will involve removing a part of a bulging disk in his lower left back in order to reliever pressure. “It’s a blow, but it’s reality,” Manager Joe Torre said. “We anticipate this will solve everything.” Nomar Garciaparra is expected to be activated from the DL by the end of the week to play shortstop, but Torre conceded he won’t be able to go everyday. Class AA Jacksonville shortstop Ivan DeJesus Jr. is also being considered.
Eight weeks brings us to the beginning of September…who REALLY thinks he will play again this year?
Ned must be calling Cincinnati asking Jocketty what it would take to get Corey Patterson.

Furcal
As if the bungling is just on the managerial side.
Kevin (NJ): With Furcal scheduled for back surgery, is he safe to drop in a redraft league? Who is the better replacement: Theriot, Hardy, Peralta, O-Cab, or Aviles?Eric Karabell: (11:13 AM ET ) Yeah, in one-year leagues if you need the roster spot, go for it. Man, this Furcal situation makes me mad. He wasted two months rehabbing, and never got better. The Dodgers really bungled the situation. And Furcal is in a walk year, so who knows where he ends up in 2009. He cost himself loads of money not being healthy. I would look at Orlando Cabrera for speed, and Peralta for the pop. Cabrera is a better overall player, though. Theriot runs the most, but he might be dropped to the eight spot in the order when Soriano returns, so be careful. He has no power at all.

Karabell
The Dodgers bungled the situation?? how?? don’t understand that comment.
As if Furcal wanted to be hurt so he makes less in his new contract…..Karabell should have thrown this question to the side…he looks stupid.

yeah but
how? he has a back injury and his game is speed and footwork in the field? he lost me on that one…how does any team bungle someone who is on the DL? Should he have had surgery before now? I don’t think so….surgery is always the last option. Maybe they weren;t forthcoming on his injury….I agree….but is any team honest to the media about one;s injury?

Last option
Maybe EK is lucky enough not to have back problems. If he did, then he’d likely know surgery is an absolute worst case scenario. The first doctor was perfects a successful surgerical technique for back problems will be the most famous doctor in the world.
