2008 Baseball Draft
With the major league draft a little over one week away, those experts devoted to following the minor leagues have their versions of mock drafts available. One of the more interesting is the one provided by Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus. In it, he doesn't give the exact player but the drafting team's general philosophy and a group of possible picks:
So instead of attaching just one name to each team in the first dozen picks, let’s be a little more loose and open and talk about philosophies are were teams are heading
Baseball America does commit to specific players and the cascade their selection have on the next team's selection. In its weekly podcast, you get the benefit of hearing MAtt Blodd and John Manuel work through their justifications for each pick.

getting to the majors
Any ideas on the timeframes for the 2008 top draft picks to make it to the majors??
Idea?
Not really. I expect this year’s draftees to be amongst the top players taken in next year’s minor league drafts, but I wouldn’t expect any to be major contribtuors for another season after that (2010).
Matt Wieters was taken 5th by the Orioles last season. He is tearing up High A right now. Aggressive promotion might get him to Baltimore in September, but I don’t expect to see him until late May 2009.
