NFL Draft Fantasy Fallout - Thomas Brown, Jalen Parmele, Xavier Omon

The Falcons drafted Thomas Brown (172nd overall) but with Michael Turner and Jerious Norwood, they don’t really need a running back.  Brown could catch on with special teams, but that’s about it.

Jalen Parmele (176th overall)
is a powerful fullback-type, but with both Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams on the Dolphins’ roster, he’ll be lucky to see any playing time.

Unlike the first two guys, the awesomely-named Xavier Omon (179th overall) actually has a chance to see some playing time.  He rushed for 2,337 yards and 37 touchdowns in his senior year at Northwest Missouri State and had over 1000 rushing attempts over his last three seasons.  He’s the definition of a workhorse back.  If Marshawn  Lynch were to go down with injury, the only other backs on the roster are Jonathan Evans, Fred Jackson and Dwayne Wright.  No, I don’t know anything about them either.  Considering that, it’s not impossible that the rookie could get a lot of carries – even several starts  -- if there’s a serious Lynch injury.

If Marshawn Lynch were to go down, guys, Fred Jackson would be the featured back without question. Jackson, a former Division III star at Coe College, played admirably filling in for Lynch last season – he ended ‘07 with 300 yards (5.2 yards per carry) and 22 receptions (4 more than Lynch despite seeing significantly less playing time). He’s been with the team for two full years now, and figures in as a third down back and could see time in the backfield at the same time as Lynch. He’s going to be stealing Lynch touches, not fighting off Omon to be the top reserve.

Wright’s currently ahead of Omon on the depth chart as well, and with Lynch and Jackson settled as the top two guys on the depth chart, Wright and Omon will be fighting for a roster spot. Omon won’t make much of a fantasy impact this year unless he makes the team, Lynch goes down, and he’s used near the goal line in place of Jackson.
