Dodgers lineup today
Here was the Dodgers lineup today (age listed in parentheses):
Juan Pierre, LF (30)
Andre Ethier, RF (26)
Matt Kemp, CF (23)
James Loney, 1B (24 last week)
Russell Martin, C (25)
Blake DeWitt, 3B (22)
Delwyn Young, 2B (25)
Chin-Lung Hu, SS (24)
Pierre is probably the 2nd worst player in that group just ahead of Young, and he makes more than the other 7 combined. He has also played more games than the other 7 combined. With the way Andruw Jones and Jeff Kent are hitting, the two 40 year old......I mean the two oldest starters, the chant to bring up Laroche and play him at 3b and move Dewitt to 2b may start real soon. Dewitt cannot be any worst defensively at 2b than Kent. Hu would also make sense at 2b, but he isn't hitting either.
And with the way the LA pitching has fared over their last 4 games, save Kuroda's performance today, Kershaw may be asked to start a few more games than originally thought. Kuroda was the victim of a Jonathan Broxton implosion today. Broxton gave up 6 runs in the 8th inning. Prior to Broxton's implosion, LA's bullpen has pitched very well lately. Derek Lowe has not pitched well of late either, so if he;s hurt, it's possible McDonald gets called up from AA.
This young team, with Laroche and Kershaw in the majors can still contend in the West, as Arizona has played as bad as LA has recently, except when Brandon Webb pitches.
Is it possible Kershaw's performance can match the hype he will receive when he finally is called up?

40-year-olds
Andruw Jones pinch-ran for pinch-hitter Jeff Kent in yesterday’s 8-5 loss to the Houston Astros. How frickin’ slow/hurt is Jeff Kent that Andruw Jones is a viable pinch-running option? It’s like beer league softball where the last batted out can run for someone and that lasted-batted out is the 5’10 230lb catcher.

Furcal
to the DL….this only means one thing. Joe Torre will be forced to play Pierre everyday and hit leadoff…taking ABs away from Ethier. If he’s smart he sits Jones for half the games. The signing of Nomar, Jones and Schmidt will lead to Ned being fired, probably before the end of the season….that’s my prediction. McCourt wants to win now….well, we have all seen how well they are playing without Furcal-no wins and 4 losses, managing two runs vs the likes of Brian Moehler and Chris “7.96 era” Sampson. Could be a coincidence, but I think not.
Kershaw’s outing tonight may result in his callup being delayed.

LaRoche
Andy is tearing up AAA. Bring him up to play 3B and make-up some of the O lost from Furcal.

Where?
If LaRoche gets the call, you’re just replacing DeWitt’s stats. How does that help? He can’t play SS, can he?

Dewitt
has never hit this consistently in the minors. LA needs to figure out what Laroche is….is he a major leaguer that just needs more than 50+ abs, or is he a AAAA hitter? I doubt he’s the latter-he just needs a chance.
Nomar is just a bench player right now…..Dewitt….would love to see him move to 2b. He’s got quick reflexes at 3b….except for the one game he played 3b coming off the bench.
Pierre…gotta love him…he’s back toi the Juan Pierre we all know and hate….comes up with 2 on, 2 out in the 9th and pops up on the 1st pitch he sees….wonderful!!! Against Gagne no less!!!

Pierre
Gagne is like a beer league softball pitcher who just threw 8 balls. You wait until he gets at least a strike. maybe two. Pierre could be lauded taking two strikes given his excellent contact rate.
