2009 Fantasy Baseball Sleeper: Jose Ceda
With the trade of Kevin Gregg from the Florida Marlins to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for AA closer Jose Ceda, the 2009 fantasy baseball closer watch kicks off. With so many fantasy draft strategies on closers centered on ignoring them at the draft, fantasy players constantly scour the free agent pool in hopes of finding the "free" 20+ Saves an undrafted closer provides.
Jose Ceda jumps to the top of the list. He is now in an organization focused on playing young players, and he has just Matt Linstrom in his way.
Ceda should be on all sleeper lists that allow for keepers in 2010.

Marmol owners rejoice!
Out of Chicago:
Pitcher Kerry Wood and the Cubs will part ways after 14 years with the organization, general manager Jim Hendry said today.
After acquiring a potential closer in Florida’s Kevin Gregg this morning, Hendry announced the Cubs would not try to re-sign Wood, who will be able to accept free-agent offers from other clubs on Friday.
I have Lindstrom in my salary/keeper league, signed for $1.
Looks like this trade just increased the value of that dollar, but you can bet I’ll try to stash an end-game buck for Ceda at the end of next spring’s auction.
Giants: World Series Champions...in 2011.
it appears KLaw agrees with you
You don’t give arms like Ceda away for one year of a middle reliever’s time. Nothing is guaranteed with pitchers and especially not with pitching prospects, but I could see Gregg posting a 4.50 ERA and leaving as a free agent while Ceda becomes a star reliever in Florida for the next six years.
wow-STAR reliever…..wonder where he will go in the UBA draft??
