Rookie of the Year - Home Run Hitters

The American League has added a disappointing crop of rookie HR hitters. This was not supposed to occur. Royals 3B Alex Gordon and Devil Rays OF Delmon Young were projected to be elite hitters. 11 HRs for Gordon and 9 for Young say otherwise. As a matter of fact, White Sox 3B Josh Fields is likely to lead AL rookies in HRs as his 15 seems out of reach for 2007 - at least to those disappointed fantasy owners of Gordon and Young.

In the National League, the situation is different. Brewers 3B Ryan Braun has seamlessly handled his promotion from AAA to hit 24 HRs. However, that does not lead NL rookies. Arizona CF Chris B. Young does with 26 HRs. Rockies' SS Troy Tulowitzki's 17 HRs are impressive, but like Steve McCroskey in Airplane, TT picked the wrong season to be a rookie.

WOW
Tim (Bflo): CUS! Now that I've got your attention - As a Mets fan, I am absolutely PETRIFIED with the thought of Heilman, Mota, Feliciano and now WAGNER (9/00 ERA in his last three appearances) being rolled out in front of the Phils and Braves lineups next week. Is there any playoff run for the Mets with this bullpen?

Jayson Stark: (1:54 PM ET ) OK, Tim. Just wanted to makde you work for this. Nobody except the two of us knows that you've posted a version of this question at least 300 times since we started this chat. So apparently, you REALLY want an answer. I don't think the Mets' big worry is next week. Their big worry is getting this pen in order in the next six weeks. This is a team good enough to win the World Series IF Pedro can make any kind of difference and IF that bullpen gets its act together. I can't tell you whether that's going to happen or not. I'm not Miss Cleo. But I DID answer your question.

9.00 ERA
To have an ERA of 9.00 in three appearances, Wagner likely would pich three innings and give-up three ERs.  No big deal.

Mota does suck though and Minaya has to answer why he gave a pitcher, whose ability suddenly returned in the second half only to be followed by a 50-game steroids suspension, a two year contract.

Mota
The Mota obsession is beyond bizarre.  He pitched 18 very good innings last September (F--king Sample Size!!!) and sucked in the post season and somehow he became the go-to reliever.  Way beyond my comprehension.

Anyway the two years is no big deal to a team with the Mets budget...it is a big deal when Willie uses him in close games.

Or
When Willie uses him at well. He has sure sucked this year.

Heilman
Willie used Heilman to close because Wags gave-up a run in thre consecutive appearances, each with a day of rest between. Seems dumb, but maybe something is wrong?
