Around SBN: Which Players Will Join The 3,000-Hit Club?

NL-Only Keeper League

Its the standard 5x5 format, with 12 teams and 260 cap for 23 players, auction style.  There is no limit on how many I keep.  Here is the rest of my team, besides Atkins, Francis, Hirsch, Billingsley, and Willingham, who else should I keep? (Numbers beside are their cost)

Asmus 2
Loney 10
Kent 23
Hardy 8
Jenkins 15
Bonds 19
Murton 10
Langerhans 10
Hoffman 28
Heilman 2
Eyre 1

Loney
Listening to an interview with Grady Little and he just said that Loney will see alot of playing time this year, by protecting Nomar and playing some outfield too.
He also indicated that Luis Gonzalez will not play everyday all year...he hesitated when asked if he would play everyday. Also, he was asked if Ethier is the starting RFer, again he hesitated, and said he has a good opportunity to start, but didn't state he would be the started. So, if Loney plays well in the outfield in spring training, I think he may be the starter...could happen.

YEP
my typing was a little off....I am surprised he answered it. I have been asking him his opinion of Laroche for weeks now.

Sweet
They get so many questions they can't answer them nor do they have the time to discern which are the best ones.

What are billingsley and Hirsh's salaries?  Anything above $5 throw them back. Niether are gonna help your whip for sure.

As for the others. . . .Hoffman, Heilman, Eyre, Loney, Bonds, and Murton if he is the starter,

Murton
Is going to Platoon with Floyd and only start versus southpaws... that is of course until Floyd gets hurt (although maybe the platoon helps avoid this).

Billingsley
I like Billingsley more than his numbers would dictate.  If he isn't too expensive (>$10 or so), then keep him.  As for Hirsch, I loathe Colorado Rockies pitchers and wouldn't touch them at all.  Too bad, too, Hirsh finished well last year.  i really liked him pre-trade.

I wish I had Ausmus at $2 just so I could throw him back as over-priced.  God the Astros kill themsleves by playing him and Everett every chance they can get!

Loney, Hardy and Bonds are the best of the rest, and I am not too excited by them.  Given the 5th category, part-time players hurt more than a 4x4 format.  Watch Loney as the Dodgers do seem determined to find him OF ABs.  If he isn't the starter, he'd go for less than $10 in an NL-only keeper league.  As long as Hardy is healthy, he should be OK at that price.

Bonds is somewhat expensive, but he wouldn't go for much less so I'd lean towards protecting him.

Hoffman
I have been torn on a $28 Hoffman.  In a 4x4 keeper NL-only, I'd protect him.  However, a 5x5 diminishes his major contribution, Saves.  However, I recall my days in a 5x5 league that gave Saves a category weight of .6, and what would happen is the Hoffman's and Smoltz' would go into the mid $20s and when the money/closers got scarce, would break the $30 barrier.

He could be protected with the "c-" changing to a "sh-" pending additional information.

Yeah
The salary is a bit larger than I would want, but I know that I probably couldn't get him back for much less.  Great analysis and thanks for the insights.
