John Patterson

I could use a little SP help in one of my H2H leagues (actually, it's a recurring theme...i didn't draft SP well this year).

My likely trade partner is looking for offense and has Felix Hernandez, Jamey Wright, Washburn, Verlander, Robertson, Lidle, and Patterson.  And even though he's on the DL right now, I'm keying in on Patterson.

Thinking of giving up either Alex Rios (first week FA pickup) or Matt Holliday (10th round selection) for Patterson, and then dropping Matt Cain (obviously not a keeper league) in favor of Geoff Jenkins to replace my lost OF production.

I'm not sure why this other manager hasn't picked Jenkins up himself, but hey, I won't question it.

Any thoughts on which player you'd rather give up, Rios or Holliday?  The transactions altogether?

Stick with Holliday
It pains me to say it, as I've been on the Rios bandwagon all year, but I think Holliday is the safer bet between the two. Patterson has always been injury prone, but you have to like what he does when he's on the mound.

But I want to believe in Rios!
I picked him up as a replacement for Baldelli when he was DLed at the start of the year, and he's been nothing short of spectacular.  Would love to hold onto him and see if he can keep it up, but I agree Holliday is a safer bet.

Really, I wouldn't be doing this deal without picking up Jenkins.  I think Cain to Patterson is a nice upgrade for my pitching, and Rios to Jenkins is a reasonable downgrade to my offense.
