Trade Offer

I was offered Manny Rameriz for Huston Street, 2nd and 4th round pick in my upcoming draft.

  1. Do you see this being a decent trade for me?  Manny will play in Left with A.Jones and Mag Ordonez in Right.
  2. I have Mags, Mig Cabrera, M. Tejada, Zimmerman, Cano, LaRoche, Pierzynzki, Kotsay and A.Jones.
  3. How long will Manny keep hitting??? Does his knee bother him that much?

Tough
I'm trying to get a hold on what would be available with your 2nd round pick and 4th.

I'd guess not a lot.  otherwise the other team wouldn't have offered them.

You've got a strong line-up without Manny in it.

Players
there are very good players in the draft.  The top 100 players are decent.  Most are rookies, but guys like Broxton, Martin, Weaver, Drew, Kendrick, Bilingsly, N.Robertson, among others are in the draft.

I might just keep the youth.  Play Kotsay in Left instead of manny and hope I can get youth.

Agree
I tend to take chances in three-for-ones.

Ummm......
This is a 20 team simualtion league and you have Manny/Tejada/Andruw Jones/Ordonez? What exactly does your pitching staff look like?

My thinking is that Manny is worth a lot more than a closer with an injury history and a couple of picks.

For a hitter like Manny, I would be looking for a frontline starter + a pick, or a closer along the lines of a Ryan/Nathan/Rivera, who has a history of excellence and no injuries to go along with it.

In my estimation, Huston Street is a good closer. He is not, however, good enough for a Manny type in conjunction with 2nd/4th picks.

What does your P staff look like?

Pitching Staff
AJ Burnett
R. Harden
B. Sheets
J. Garland
F. Garcia
OD. Perez

F. Rodriguez
K. Farns.

Worries about Manny
Two things upset met about Manny...
  1. He played in 130 games last year.  Yes, when he did play he killed the ball.  But that knee did bug him through out the year.
  2. If he gets traded he may go some where else he may not have the luxary of hitting in a short fence in left.

by ChrisRef19 on Nov 27, 2006 3:07 PM EST up reply actions

Opposite Field Power.
I wouldn't worry about Manny hitting elsewhere. If you were to check his splits you would see his power is pretty consistent, home or away. I don't think hitting in Fenway helps him all that much. Maybe it helps his average some.

If anything the fence in left might cut down on some of his homers and translate into more doubles. He's also got really good power to the opposite field. I think he could hit at least 35 to 40 homers no matter where his home park is. As for his health that's definitely something to start thinking about as he gets older.

Ouch.....
If you are the team gicving up Huston and the picks, I would do the deal. Manny will hit no matter where he goes. Fenway is actually not a hitters park, if you look at the statistics. Put that fear to rest. I would see if Huston and a 2nd would turn the trick, but barring that, I would feel comfortable acq'ing a Manny type because in a down year, you can expect this:
.310
35HR
120 RBI
95 Rs

and in an exceptional year, elite power numbers:
.330
45 HR
150 RBI
110 Rs

Huston Street is nice, but closer's are overvalued in mixed leagues and hitters such as Manny do not grow on trees.

Make the deal.

Ok
Looks like there is going to be a good rosk C available, and given your line-up, I could see one taken higher than normal.

by faketeams on Nov 28, 2006 9:50 AM EST up reply actions

C
Yeah, I have pick #13, and then one in the second round.  I dont plan on using that pick unless Russ martin or Jojhima are there.  If not, I will wait till the 3rd or 4th to get a back up.  In this league we need to ahve 162 games at each position or we get a penalty.  Aj has only 133 games, which means I need to find 29 games at C.  The rest of my team is fine.

Coste Effective
Phillies catcher Chris Coste may be a good fill-in for those games, and I doubt he'd be a high round pick.

Or a low one.

by faketeams on Nov 28, 2006 2:13 PM EST up reply actions

Thanks
Yeah, I have a whole list and he is on it.  Catcher, 1B, OF and a couple relievers will be my targets.
